On February 19, 2022, AISG held its first-ever independently organized collaboration with TEDxYouth on its Science Park campus. Organized by Sabrina C., a senior at AISG, alongside NHS and Trixie Siemens, who is the assistant principal of the school, the event aimed to prompt in-depth and connected discussions on several issues that impact modern-day society. The first annual TEDxYouth collaboration with AISG aims to give students a platform to challenge and question the world and society that surrounds them.
This year’s theme, Re-Connect, strives to provide, and develop multiple perspectives about what it means to reconnect not only with the people around us or the world around us but also with ourselves.
“I was really honored that I was able to participate and watch all of the student TED talks,” said Alicia B., a senior at AISG. “Mainly because it was the first time not only for me or the other audience members, but for the people who were giving the talks as well.”
“This event is meaningful because we get to compare how different people look at the world differently,” said Helen W., a senior at AISG who gave a speech at the event, “We may learn something from the 6th graders as well. Standing on the podium, everyone is equal, everyone’s voice matters — It is also a fantastic opportunity to tighten the bond within the community as we get to know more about our alumini and what they have been through.”
In a time where everyone’s world has been continuously haunted with strife and uncertainty, the need to reconnect with the people around us, whether it be family or friends, ourselves, and our community is stronger than ever; and is the first step for us to regain even a slight sense of normality once again.
The theme Re-Connect strives to find influential stories that go along the lines of our choice and process to reconnect and will have a lasting impact on the future generations of AISG students for years to come. The word “reconnect” has a vast array of explorations, whether it means reconnecting with our culture, our society, our planet, or our own identity.
TEDxYouth@AISG encourages any and all individuals who wish to or are willing to share their stories to apply for future conferences.
