APAC Cross Country

From October 24 to 26, our cross country team traveled to Concordia International School of Shanghai (CISS) to participate in the annual APAC cross country race. Both the boys’ and girls’ team got 10th place overall, but individuals were able to break their personal best records.

On Thursday night, when we got to Shanghai, we made sure to hydrate, fuel up on carbs and get some good sleep for the race the next morning. The boys began running at 8:00 a.m and the girls 5 minutes after. CISS was pushing for the race to start early, as the course was located in a public park. The results for the race can be seen here.

To further improve and better prepare for the APAC race next year, many of our runners have decided to continue training throughout the year. With the continuous training, our runners will hopefully achieve higher next year, since while runners from other schools train year-round, we were only given 3 months of on-season training. The runner who placed first in the entire APAC race roughly runs 50-60 km a week.

Being the first APAC Elia K. attended, he expressed his awe by stating “the competition was a lot tougher than middle school sports, which was a good learning experience.” He also was amazed of the “opportunity to meet new people and make friends.”

As a captain, I am really proud of how committed our runners were throughout the season. They all showed up to practice with a great attitude and a will to improve. Sadly, we will be losing many key runners after year, including but not limited to Elia K, Lucas E, Sam J, Kunwoo J, Cindy W, and Cathy Z. Congratulations to our runners once again for doing their best!
