APAC Orchestra

This year’s APAC Orchestra was hosted by Brent International School of Manila during November 17-19. Our AISG conductor was Ms. Lin and the roster consisted of Gloria Huang, Eileen Qiu, Kelvin Fan, Jerry Zhou, Ai Ni Chew, Jeff Lee, Ji Hyun Park, Agnes Lau, Jerry Julius, Javin Liu, Zoe Li, Sung A Kim, Jae Min Kim, Rachel Zhang, Min Seouk Choi.

All of the participants worked very hard all year long to improve their skills and they spent hours practicing both together and individually.

I was able to interview sophomore Javin Liu and ask him a few questions about the season and APAC. When I asked him what his expectations were for APAC, he responded, “The expectations I had for this year’s APAC Orchestra were just to be placed in the top two rows and learn from other musicians’ different kinds of skills to make myself a much more experienced musician.”

Later, I asked him what he enjoyed most about being a part of AISG’s APAC orchestra and he replied,”The best part was collaborating with the whole orchestra. And, making sure every piece of music we play is at its finest so we can give the audience the best concert.” Liu also added, “The most challenging part of being in the orchestra was the rehearsals. Everyday we had to play around seven hours. To be honest, it killed me because I am not the type of person who can sit somewhere for hours without physically moving a lot.” It definitely took a great deal of effort from all the participants to proudly represent AISG at APAC.

Liu concluded by saying the best part of APAC was “making the best music we can ever make to show our audience how beautiful it sounds when a big orchestra gets together and plays.”

It certainly sounds like the team meshed together well and was able to corporately work together and make their pieces sound excellent. Everyone involved did a great job.
