On January 22, our swim team, led by Ms. Allan and Ms. Liddell, headed to APAC swimming, which was hosted by Seoul Foreign School this year. The team was determined to swim faster, make personal records and break school records.

IMG_2048When I asked the girls captain Kyohimeko Ka how she thought APAC was overall, she said, “It was a great opportunity to compete with a lot of amazing swimmers from other schools [because] it allowed us to observe our weaknesses that can be improved in the future.” She added that many people swam their personal bests and did a great job, and that she cherishes the relationships she has made with her teammates throughout the year and at APAC.

Although the team had several new swimmers who had never been to APAC, everyone was excited to travel and compete. Junior Alice Fiorito said, “I have done something like APAC in my previous school, so I was expecting a similar structure and organization. [It] was a great experience and I definitely enjoyed myself during the competition. I am also happy with how the team did at at APAC and although we didn’t win, we were all able to set personal records in our events!” Fiorito added that she is looking forward to next year and said, “hopefully [I am] able to improve my swimming and make more memories.” Fiorito concluded saying, “I think that the whole season with the swim team has been great. Everyone is so friendly with each other and we always encourage each other. We had highs and lows [but overall] I think that many would agree when I say this season was a great one!”

Bryan Hu, who has been a member of the swim team for all four high school years, said, “this year was my favorite year as I was able to close this chapter of my life. Although I will continue swimming, it will be for leisure rather than competition. I will miss my swimming buddies.”

Jake Kim reflected on his final APAC, saying, “It was amazing that I could go back to my home country and swim my favorite sport for the last time in my high school career. Although the weather was really cold, it was super fun at the same time.” Several other swimmers said they enjoyed the Korean food and the overall atmosphere.
