Are Seniors On Track?

Sinking into the final year of high school careers, seniors have been thrown at with stones of IB extended essays, college selection lists, and none the less, college applications and essays themselves. So how far are the seniors in with their application process? By consulting with various students of the senior class, they have opened up with honesty about their progress within the process. If you’re a senior, you should check whether you’re on track, and if you are in any grade below, feel free to understand what you may go through in a few years.

Most of the students in 12th grade responded that they were mainly focused on applying to colleges within the United States, which is not at all surprising as it has been the case for other senior classes in the past 5 years. Therefore, a majority of the colleges require either the infamous Common App Personal Statement, individual college essays, or both. From the students that I have asked about, they have stated that they have either completed their college list, or near finalization process. However, for many of these students, they still may require meetings with their counsellors to discuss the feasibility of their lists (or even reach for higher targets). A dozen of students have also begun their essays, with many of them already simply awaiting to ask teachers to read their essays and possibly correct grammatical or structural problems. With the entire class of 17 attending a retreat to discuss the process last Friday, most of the applicants are looking to a clearer perspective of the overall procedure.

So far for the class of 2017, the college application process is on track, with most of the early decision applicants hoping to have a somewhat finalized draft of their applications completed before China Trips. Hopefully, this year’s seniors can receive great letters from their dream schools, and go onto brighter careers.
