Are you a gamer? Are you tired of paying for TeamSpeak? Are you frustrated with Skype’s laggy service? Well, look no further: there’s a new gaming voice and text chat called Discord. Both free and secure, Discord boasts an all-in-one voice and text chat that can be accessed on both phone and desktop, browser and app. Many a time people’s computers lag and underperform due to chat programs such as Skype and TeamSpeak, but Discord promises a new system that will allow for the CPU to concentrate on the game.

Developed by Hammer and Chisel, Discord is a new free proprietary VoIP application that runs on Mac OSX, Microsoft Windows, Android, iOS, and the browser. Hammer and Chisel originally designed a mobile MOBA called Fates Forever, before moving onto Discord, released in May 2015. Intended for gaming communities, Discord already has many famous gamers using and advertising the program. Although currently free, Discord plans to monetize emojis and stickers in order to gain a source of income.

Discord seems to outdo its fellow VoIP programs in almost every aspect. Comparing Discord to Skype, Discord offers host ing service for calls (in order to prevent any possible dropping of calls that would occur with Skype), individual volume control, IP & DDoS protection, automatic failover, multiple channels, permissions, custom hot key, minimum CPU usage, low latency, etc. Although lacking the offer of video calls, Discord intends to invest and add that feature in the near future.
