A bake sale is the basic fundraising activity for organizations. Products that one can buy from these sales are baked goods, such as doughnuts, muffins, cookies, and brownies. According to redstate.com, the first bake sale was on 21st of May in 1891.
Bake sales are used to fund an organization, but do they really earn money? Nina S., a coordinator of Roots and Shoots Animals, says that “Bake sales have actually been a quite profitable in my experience. In fact, I organized a bake sale just last week for Breast Cancer awareness month and earned almost 2,000 kuai by selling at just one lunch period.” This proves that bake sales are profitable, hence the reason why so many organization use them. Although there is profit, it can differ between sales. When I asked Nina when they are most profitable, she said that “Middle school really pulls through at bake sales.” She added that she finds the “fudgy-looking” brownies and the chocolate treats are “gone in a heartbeat.” It is clear that our school has a weakness for eating chocolate, but would buying from the bake sales be considered as “worthwhile”?
Are bakesales worth our money? Tiffany C. agrees that they are worth our money. When I interviewed her, she said” the majority of the bake sales that are held at AISG here are for a good purpose. The groups spend lots of time setting up but the money that is earned is donated to meaningful organizations that make the world a better place.” Jennifer Z. also agrees with this idea because “we are raising money and awareness towards our cause.”
Although bake sales are very profitable and worthwhile, they also have downsides, such as unhealthiness. However, you can still enjoy the various goods at the bake sales!
