Battle Over Rape Claim in South Korea

• Bookmarks: 391692

An Australian woman was drugged and raped during night out in Seoul.. or so she claims. The police were dismissive when the victim reported it and did not perform essential tests. The woman is now raising funds for further legal action.

The South Korean police rejected her story as “one-sided”. The victim felt officers from Seoul Metropolitan Police’s Yongsan Police Station placed excessive amount of emphasis on the fact that she had gone out alone despite the fact that the pub crawl was an organized event.

However, the police officer who had investigated the case told Korean news agency that the information that police were unwilling to act on the case was false; the victim was unable to remember details of the attack and the drug test came out as negative so there was no evidence to support the fact that she had been raped.

The Australian victim now believes that her attacker lives in Britain and is attempting to take matters there. She is raising money to help cover her legal costs through the GoFundMe crowdfunding website.

Since her story went public,  the victim said 16 other woman contacted her to share similar experiences in South Korea.
