Let’s face it. All you’re going to do during the summer is binge watch television shows and sleep until noon. All you’re going to use your literary skills for is crafting the perfect Instagram caption or WeChat post. Instead of all that, why don’t you use your skills for something more potentially rewarding? Your writing could be the next article in the International New York Times! Yes, that’s right, the New York Times.
The International New York Times is hosting a writing competition, and the winners will have their articles posted in the Asia Pacific Edition. The competition began in 2009, and in previous years it was limited to contestants in Hong Kong. Recently, the competition expanded to include all of Asia.
The topic this year is “Global Youth”, so who would be a better fit to write an article than youth like yourselves living internationally? All participants will be awarded a 4-week digital subscription to NYTimes.com and will receive a certificate of participation. Acknowledging that these two weeks will be busy, you don’t have to start now. The submission is due on July 29. That’s around two months to write a 900-word article.
Next time you feel like you should do something productive during the summer, take out your laptop and just start typing: write out the untold stories.
