Ready For BEIMUN

BEIMUN, or Beijing Model United Nations is rapidly approaching, and AISG students are still in the midst of preparation. The conference will be hosted by the International School of Beijing (BEIMUN), and will be taking place on March 9th to March 12th at the Sun Palace Crown Plaza in Beijing.

Any MUN conference is a chance for students to come together and solve global issues, and BEIMUN is no different. The theme of this year’s conference is “Identity in the 21st Century” and deals with trying to achieve global equality between ethnic minorities, religious minorities, women, etc.

AISG students are extremely excited about the BEIMUN conference. In Hwa Mo, a sophomore representing South Sudan says that he is “looking forward to meeting other people who are also interested in global issues because in school it is not something you can bring up in casual conversation”. When asked about how the resolution was coming along for his issue, he answered: “…pretty challenging because all the pre-determined issues for committee’s research in the general assembly has very little to do with my country.”

Besides writing resolutions and debating issues, AISG students also use the time after the conference to socialize, bowl, and eat Baskin Robins ice cream (which has become a MUN tradition in the past two years). Punya, a junior, said that what she enjoys most about MUN conferences is “making new friends and spending some time with my friends in school so we can have experiences outside the classroom”. When asked about the global issues that are brought up in conferences, Punya replied “I think it’s very interesting and commendable that we’re placing such importance on issues that would otherwise be neglected”. Well said, Punya. Very well said.
