This piece is a cereal box design for an imaginary crossover between Kellogg and Cheetos.
Artist’s Thoughts:
“Blazin’ Sugar Bombs” is the product of one of the many projects given in the Graphic Design course that tested our creativity and designing skills; in this instance it was to create a cereal brand as well as design all 6 sides of a potential cereal box for the brand. “Blazin’ Sugar Bombs” presents a crossover where the two classic snack companies Kellogg and Cheetos come together to create an eccentric new flavor for breakfast cereal. When the project was first revealed to us, I had no clue how I was going to design my cereal brand or box, so I decided to sketch all the random ideas that popped into my head. Eventually, I realized that I wanted something “explosive” (no pun intended) out of my cereal. Something that was unique. My first design took the idea quite literally, as I sketched a cover that had a giant mushroom cloud inside a bowl with bits of cereal and milk flying across the cover. However, for how brash the concept was, the cover itself ironically felt bland and uninteresting. I knew I needed something that would “pop”, and so I decided to use the two most eye-catching mascots of the cereal and snack industry: Tony the Tiger and Chester the Cheetah. Now I knew roughly how I wanted the finished product to look like. I designed a suitable logo and started to work on the different sides of the box. By using the Adobe Photoshop, Indesign, and Illustrator skills we learnt earlier in the year, the process of designing the box itself went smoothly, as it took only a couple of weeks to complete. When I was finally done with the piece, I took a step back and felt fulfilled while also realizing that nobody in their right minds would ever take a bite of the cheetah-frosted flakes mashup “Blazin’ Sugar Bombs.”
