On the 11th of September, both the boys’ and girls’ volleyball teams travelled to the Western Academy of Beijing to participate in the Tri-Cities tournament. Competing were WAB, ISB, SASPD, and of course AISG.
Both teams’ first games were against SASPD— the girls lost the first set of the game but regained their confidence and fought their way back, winning three sets in a row. As for the boys, SASPD barely skimped by with a slight victory over our team.
The other two games that AISG played were against ISB and WAB. However, since these teams were very well trained and coordinated, neither of our teams were able to beat them. Although both of our teams lost, they still kept a positive attitude and were ready continue on to the finals for third place.
SASPD won the first set of the game for third place on Saturday afternoon, but our Rams, as usual, never surrendered in the face of adversity— after a few words of advice from Coach Tomassen, they returned to the court and defeated SASPD for three sets in a row, ultimately winning third place.
As other schools celebrated our boys’ victory, our girls were ready to play against SASPD for third place. During the first set, the girls were in the zone, crushing SASPD by ten points. But alas, for the latter three sets, the opposition made an astounding comeback, beating AISG by 3-1. Despite the fact that they lost the last game, ranking fourth, the girls still felt that with enough practice, they would eventually reach the level at which many of these other schools were already playing. Overall, 2015 Tri-Cities Volleyball in Beijing was a great experience for every competitor; the weather was great and the games brought teams together.
