This is an outfit of Chomper made of cardboard.
Artist’s Thoughts:
In 3D art class, we had a unit called repurpose and redesign. Just like the name of the unit, it’s about making art with recycled materials. I was excited about this because we had the chance to make an outfit out of cardboard and actually wear it at school. So, I designed a Chomper helmet, because I think the petals are both visually appealing and easy to make. But as soon as I start, I realized that it’s not as easy as I thought. Cardboard is different from paper—it’s thick and hard, and extremely hard to cut by scissors. By the end of class, everyone’s hands hurt. It’s also a big challenge to tape the cardboard pieces together to make it three-dimensional. There are so many angles and surfaces in this piece that I can’t even imagine when making the design sketch. But the funniest part is to wear our outfits—it looked like we had a Halloween parade!
