Champions Train, Losers Complain – XC 2018

Cross country season has started again! There have been several changes to the team as former coaches, Ms. Archer and Mr. Parker have moved on to new schools. This year, the coaches are Ms. Maine, a new Biology teacher, and Mr. Paras, a parent volunteer (who is also the dad of co-editor-in-chief Abby Paras).

A handful of runners have left, but many more have joined the team. In the boys’ cross country team, Brian J, Andrew Renfrow, Alonzo H, Chirag A and Mike C have left the team. Luckily, new young runners, including Evan T, Bryan L, David Z and Anderson F have joined this year. Two sophomores, Bryan S, and Taeyoung H have started their first year in the team and are motivated to improve. One junior, Kunwoo J, and one senior, Michael L, joined the team this year. 

From the girls’ team, Nina S, Leyla S, Noya G and Leah L have sadly graduated or moved. Fortunately, new freshmen, including Alice J and Celine F, and new sophomores, Tisha M, Chie Y, and Vicky K have joined this year.

Since most of the team consists of freshmen, this will be a new experience for a number of the runners. According to senior, Sameer S, “although we are an inexperienced team, we are working hard to improve. I believe that with all the hours we put in, we will have a successful year.”

There are many upcoming races. The first race is on September 8th at AISG. Afterward, there will be an ISB invitational competition on the 14-16th in Bangkok. Followed by another AISG race on September 13th. The final race will be at HKIS on October 19-21. Come out and support us!
