Closing Up on the February Habitat Build

Habitat for Humanity is a community service group in our school that focuses on providing help to the people in our community. Each semester, the group has a build where students sign up and travel to a remote village in Guangdong province for three days to provide further help to the building process in the region.

The build is an important part of the community service because it is an opportunity to provide the people in the remote village a shelter to live in. Since shelter is a basic need for people to survive, it is just a small step to changing the lives of the people there. During the build, members move according to the orders of the Habitat coordinators in the building region. They mostly lay bricks and make cement. According to senior William Kim, the habitat build is a pleasant experience because it is an opportunity to spread the love that he received from people throughout his life to other people in a small but impactful way. He also stated that through the build, he learned that the process of building a house is not easy more arduous than what he thought.

Last semester, the Habitat had a November build; this semester there will be a build in February. The date of the February build is unclear as they are still in the process of confirming with the Habitat coordinators at the building site, but it is clear that they will be traveling to a different site than the one in November. Mr. Boulton, the supervisor of Habitat for Humanity, encouraged many people to join the build because it would be a pleasant experience where they can make a small contribution to the fundamental part of lives of those who live in the village. He also added that no preparation needs to be done for the build and that it would be a relatively rewarding experience for anyone who decides to go on the trip.
