Come to HS Poetry Share!

To celebrate National Poetry Month, AISG will be hosting a HS Poetry Share event! It will take place in the library next to the big window on Wednesday, April 25. It starts at 3:15pm and ends at 4:30pm. At the event, everyone will bring a poem to share. You can either bring your favourite poem, or a poem written by yourself. Coming to this event can teach you about different types of poetry and you can see some fresh content written by your own friends! Refreshments will be provided for anyone who attends this event. It also happens to be on the same day as the band concert next week, so anyone staying after school to watch can also come.

Henry Y., a freshman, personally thinks that poetry is great. He says, “Through poetry, you can feel how the author felt when he wrote it. You can see the vivid colours and the beautiful scenery they are talking about. In fact, it’s basically the same as rap, just not in music form.” However, he would not go to this event as he feels that there would not be enough participation for him to enjoy it.

Prena K., a sophomore, says that she feels indifferent about poetry. When I told her about the event, she said she would not go, but would only go if it was slam poetry as that was interesting.

I think the English Department can increase participation by talking about more about it to their students and setting up more posters around the school. To find some amazingly-written poetry, you can check out Call #811 in the library. See you there!
