COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign Administrated to Millions Across Globe

It is becoming increasingly likely that the current vaccination campaign for COVID-19 and its various branches of variants will become one of—if not the largest—vaccination campaigns the world has ever seen. The number of doses given to people across the globe has been skyrocketing in the span of less than a year.

As of this month, over 9.73 billion doses of COVID-related vaccines have been given across 184 countries, with an estimate of 39.7 doses per day. In total, 124 doses have been administrated for every 100 people.

“Yes, I’ve been vaccinated, along with my entire family,” said Max N., a junior at AISG. “We got the vaccine about a month ago.”

The average number of vaccine doses given per day in the United States alone is 1.33 million, with a total of 527 million doses so far. Boosters for variants such as Omicron will likely be increasingly required to keep the virus in check as time passes, which will allow for the campaign to become even more widespread.

“My family and I got the Pfizer vaccine a while ago,” said Alanis M., a sophomore at AISG. “I think the efficiency of vaccine distribution varies by country and whether they’re mandating it or not.”

The downside of the current rate of distribution of vaccinations is the inequality that inevitably stands alongside it. In fact, the highest-earning nations and regions are acquiring vaccinations ten times faster than those with the lowest income rates.

Although 9.67 million individuals are recorded receiving their very first COVID shots each day, the end of the process to stop the pandemic continues to be foggy. This is because of the numerous factors at play in determining the future of the globe as it perseveres through the pandemic.
