Creative Writing Club

Creating Writing club is a small club that gives students a chance to express themselves without fear of being judged. It tends to be easier for people to express their feelings through writing. Sophomore Esther M., a member of the creative writing club, stated, “writing can convey many messages in various ways, opening up a scape of different viewpoints of the writer, which is why I like writing. I enjoy exploring peoples own opinions and I like writing down my own perspectives..”

So what occurs in a normal meeting? Emily A., the club coordinator stated, “We start with a ten-minute warmup made by one of the club members, and then we have about thirty minutes of generic writing with a prompt. After that, we share what we wrote and start editing. If we have anything ready, we post it on our website.”

The club recently created a website called the MUSE where they share their work. On the site, students aren’t censored because writers are encouraged to explore their full range of creativity. Emily reviews their work before they post to make sure there aren’t any major errors, but generally, there isn’t much editing.

The club was created this year from what was previously LitMag, and is relatively small. I would recommend all of you reading this to try it out. You might not be the most creative, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t find a new interest. Go to one meeting and see if you enjoy it. You might be surprised. If you don’t want to attend a meeting, you can even send your work to Emily (09allene@aisgz.org) and she will make sure there are no errors, and then publish it on MUSE. In addition, if you’re afraid of being judged, you can choose to stay anonymous.

With all honesty, I was confused about my elective this year, so I decided to try journalism, not expecting to like it. I never really enjoyed writing and I’m not the best at writing. However, I turned out enjoying and being passionate about writing articles. Maybe you’ll find an interest in creative writing!

AISG’s creative writing club meetings are held in Ms. Barga’s classroom (317) every Thursday afternoon. To find things you like, you need to try new things!
