Cross Country: One Hill of a Sport

• Bookmarks: 331290

Both Cross Country teams last year had an astonishing performance throughout the season. Both, the boy’s and girl’s teams, showed great courage during the season. This 2016-2017 year, the Cross Country team is looking stronger than ever. The addition of new coach Archer with previous coach Duncan is proving to be a successful combination. Both coaches are enthusiastic about running and are doing everything they possibly can to make this Cross Country season productive yet amusing at the same time.

This Cross Country season there are multiple races, the first one being at Bangkok on the weekend of September 15. On September 24, AISG will be hosting the Rams Invitation Fun Run. This race will take place on the mountain next to the Science Park campus and everyone is welcome to support our very own Rams as they run 5 kilometers desperately trying to earn a trophy, but most importantly as they represent our school.

The Cross Country team is determined training 5 days a week. Practices vary to keep the training productive, entertaining, and not repetitive. It may be too late to join the team, but it is never too late to run with the team. All students and faculty are encouraged to train along side the runners. Cross country is a team sport, and the more people that are part of the team, the stronger the team will be! “90% of running is mental,” says coach Archer. The first step to becoming a better runner is being motivated and keeping a positive mind, so what are you waiting for? Come train with team!

The Cross Country team goes on multiple retreats throughout the year. The most recent one being a trip to Jiulong. Two runs took place at Jiulong as well as team bonding activities.  The 12 kilometer adventure run being the main highlight of the trip ended up proving to be a great training session, as well as great team bonding time.

Fingers crossed, it seems like this Cross Country is going to be good if not better than ever. The team is full of courage and commitment which is crucial for success in any sport. Let’s see how the team performs this 2016 – 2017 season!
