Dance ‘Till the Sun Rises: APAC Dance 2018

The highlight of the APAC Season 1, APAC dance, is back! Last year, the dance team performed marvelously in Shanghai. This year, APAC will be held again in Shanghai, but at a different school. APAC will be held in Concordia International School of Shanghai between November 14 and 18, 2018.

There has been a big change in the team. Last year’s seniors, including Gwen F, captain of the dance team, Elly A, Michelle Z and Davina S are no longer in the dance team. The changes were not only among the members. The coach of the dance team has also changed to Ms. Erica Liu, and there is a high expectation from the school to see a thrilling change in the dance style.

The learners have become the leaders. The new captains will be the astonishingly talented Beatrice M and the Korean dance machine Sherry K. These talented captains will need to teach the team what they have learned from previous seniors before leaving the team next year.

The traditional process of deciding the dance team was executed in this order: audition, choose and practice. However, in an interview with the new captain Beatrice, she told me that the dance team would be implementing a new method for choosing the team members: training first, and then choosing the members.  “We didn’t do this before, and [this is] the first time doing this. It’s just like the girl’s soccer team last year, we’ll be choosing the members later.”

“We wanted to train the members first and see if they can improve,” explained Beatrice. This new policy is expected to bring a sensational effect on AISG’s dance team of this year as well the dane teams in the future.

“My expectation of the dance team this year is to try out different genres of dances,” said Sherry with her typical high-pitched excited voice. “As a captain I really want our members to learn and improve through trying out new things,” Sherry added, showing her will to lead the dance team to success.

Currently, the auditions to participate in the dance team are still going on.  Since the final members of the team will be decided approximately around October, there is still a chance for those of you who want to be the star of the dance team to join!
