As some of you may know, the time of year to donate hair has come around again. Connect 4 Cancer will be hosting our hair donation event (Hair4Hope) during International Day (April 20) and it is time to start signing up! This year, Connect4Cancer will be donating the hair to a different organization, so there are fewer restrictions on hair conditions. In the past few years, colored and/or chemically treated hair was not allowed as it was believed that the hair would be bad quality. This year however, colored and chemically treated hair IS allowed, as long as it is in good condition. The other requirements remain the same — the hair must be at least 8 inches, or 20 centimeters, long and bleached hair is not allowed.
The donation comes along with a free haircut from professionals, hair products (such as conditioner), and a newly designed t-shirt! Please note that if you are willing to participate in Hair4Hope, you do NOT have to donate on International Day. It is understandable as some might want to keep their hair long, up until prom. Simply just tie your hair in two or more pony tails, cut them off (you may get your stylist to do this), place the hair in a plastic bag, and hand it to Ms. Navis. You will still receive free hair products and a shirt as an appreciation for donating, just not a free haircut from professionals.

One thing Connect4Cancer is trying to do is to make this event one that raises money for the Children’s Hope Foundation. To do so, there will be a new “sponsorship” concept where hair donors that are willing to raise money will try to get sponsors to donate money to them for cutting their hair. As a reference, this would be similar to the concept of GIN’s “Fun Run” from a few years ago, where each participant would ask for sponsors for each lap they run. It would be greatly appreciated if you could ask your friends, family, or even teachers, to sponsor you for generously donating your hair. All money raised will go to fund cancer medication to help underprivileged children with cancer.
