as the new school year progresses new faculty members, teachers and students are getting to know everyone better. New members of the school have become new parts of our lives: new friends, mentors, guidance, or inspiration. One of this year’s many new teachers, Mr. Christopher Baier, is from New Hartford, Connecticut. Having previously taught at Escuela Campo Alegre in Caracas, Venezuela; Korea International School in Seoul, Korea; and Eastside Catholic School in Seattle, Washington (where he met his wife Ms. Jess Barga), Mr. Baier has had quite the history in teaching as well as a Graduate Diploma of Teaching from the University of Southern Queensland. After living in Venezuela for the past 5 years, Mr. Baier, along with his wife, is excited to be returning to Asia with their three year old son, Cormac. They are also thrilled about joining AISG and its legacy.
Mr. Baier got into research after college. He did research both in public for colleges as well as in private industries. After about 12 years of research, he decided to seek something new. While he was researching for the University of Washington, he offered to help with classes. After working with students, he decided that he wanted to go into teaching. When asked why, he responded, “Some of the stuff you’ll get in the classroom, you’ll never get in a lab; the relationships, engagement, and energy levels are super fun and exciting.”
Anyone who has him as a teacher probably would have noticed the impressive collection of movie posters and action figures he adorns his rooms with. Being a cultured individual, he has a poster collection ranging from the relatively recent Star Trek Into Darkness to the classic Jaws. Some of his favorite movies are Breaking Away, The Empire Strikes Back, Donnie Darko, and many others, “as long as it is dark and not romantic.”
