Drunk Russian Captain Crashes into Scotland

• Bookmarks: 351279

a_initialAccording to investigators, a Russian ship captain drank half of a litre of rum before heading off to work- being in charge of a 7,000 ton, 129-meter long cargo ship. The mariner was so drunk, and “inattentive” due to the effects of the alcohol, that he managed to crash into Scotland at full speed.

Investigators say that, before the crash occurred, the captain made a personal phone call that caused him some kind of anxiety, which then caused him to consume the half-litre of rum. Due to the large alcoholic intake of this man, he failed to make necessary course adjustments, and the ship’s navigation alarm was switched off. If this had been turned on, it would have alerted the other crew members of their captain’s incapacity.

A breathalyser used on the sailor a few hours after the accident revealed that the alcohol level on his breath was at 2.71 mg/ml (0.27 in the US), which is nearly eight times the level that is allowed for professional sailors in the UK.
