Dynasties in High School: How Do the Students Feel?

With the start of an exciting new school year, our school community is being reinvented for its 40th anniversary. One major change for the high school is that the dynasty system – a system previously only used in middle school – is including them as well! For many, this system that involves the four dynasties – Qin, Han, Yuan, and Tang – is nostalgic and a great addition to the school culture. The dynasty system involves weekly events in which each dynasty competes for points, and the dynasty with the most points at the end of the year is named the champion. These events vary from sports to trivia, so everyone has something that they can contribute regardless of age. The first event of the year kicked off with the flagship event: each dynasty coming up with their cheer. Many high schoolers reminisced about their time in lower secondary during this time.

“I remember this from middle school,” said Yuan dynasty senior Andrew Z., “It is super nostalgic and I am so excited to see what events we are going to do. I’m really excited to play ‘Hunger Games’ because that was so much fun when we were younger.”

However, other students have different opinions. One student that asked to remain anonymous said that “the system itself is fun, but the events so far have been boring. I feel like the entire school in the gym at one time creates too much chaos and it’s just a big mess with bad organization. I really hope we can do a better job at organizing everything so that the games are fun instead of confusing.”

Overall, though, it seems that the general consensus is that the high school student body is ecstatic that they can compete for their dynasties again just like they did when they were younger.
