Graduation for the class of 2019 was held in our theater, May 30, 2019. There were many guests—ranging from family members, teachers, and alumni of AISG. The event was held from 6 to 8 p.m., and the night ended with a buffet reception.

The night started with a band performance directed by Dr. Taylor. After the short and sweet performance, Mr. Timmerman and Dr. Carmody gave their introductory speeches. They mentioned numerous accomplishments made by the class of 2019, ranging from academics to athletics.

The class of 2019 voted for 4 speakers of the night, 2 students and 2 teachers. Vicky J. was the first student speaker and her speech was humorous with a number of jokes. Mr. Cheung followed up with his speech, which was about identity and inclusion.

The traditional senior video was displayed right after Mr. Cheung’s speech. This year’s video is called “AISG Class of 2019 — Exeunt,” created by Beatrice M., Carrie L., Raven H. and Winnie C. (link). The video consisted of a small skit, student and teacher interviews and class of 2019 memes.

Thomas B. gave his speech right after the senior video. He talked about the unforgettable experiences at AISG. Ms. Barga was the final guest speaker of the night, and she talked about the importance of kindness. She encouraged everyone, including the class of 2019, to try to be kind to others as they move on to the next stage of their lives.

After all the speeches, it was finally time for the class of 2019 to receive their diplomas. The students walked onto the stage one by one as Javin L. and Meenu S. called out their names. Once all the students were on stage, they turned the tassels of their graduation caps, marking the end of their high-school journey.

After the ceremony, everyone was invited to a buffet held right outside of our theater. During this time, many people took pictures with their family and friends.

Last message to the class of 2019 on behalf of AISG: Congratulations, class of 2019. Be bold, be courageous and be your best!
