Free block is an essential part of school life. It allows people to finish their work at school, freeing up time at home. At AISG, free block is 85 minutes, and one is allowed to go most places on campus, including the theater, the cafe, and the library. These spots each provide various resources that help the student. We interviewed students of different grades, and they told us their preferences.
Some students like to work in the library during free block, such as Andy Jeong in 11th grade who likes the learning environment of the library. He also states that many of his friends are there, and when he needs help or has a group project, he said, “I can easily collaborate with my classmates.”
The lounge is also another suitable place to work. Prerna Kanji in 10th grade says that she works in the lounge as she has first block free, so it’s convenient for her to stay there. She also has journalism afterwards, which is also on the 3rd floor. She brings up another valid point, saying that she can eat there, which was something she could not do in the library last year.
Robbie He in 9th grade says that he works in the theater during free block as it is very silent, and that allows him to focus on his work and finish it quickly.
People go to various places for free block, but they all are trying to achieve the same goal: to finish their homework at school. Although some students may not use their time productively, most of us work earnestly during free block to protect our personal time outside of school. We hope that you will use these places in your future free blocks!
