From 327 to the Theater: NHS Induction Ceremony

• Bookmarks: 401560

On Wednesday, March 9th, the annual National Honor Society (NHS) and the National Chinese Honor Society (NCHS) Induction Ceremony took place. The event was quite exciting, especially for the inductees of NHS as there is the annual section of the event that includes old NHS members saying a small speech about a new inductee, without the inductee knowing. Generally, the people saying the speeches are friends of the inductee, which adds an emotional element to the whole event.

Compared to the past years, there has been a massive change in the Induction Ceremony. The biggest one is that now, the event takes place in the theater, which makes the event feel much more official than before, when it was in room 327/328. People were extremely satisfied with this and, as NHS President Tiffany Chan states, “It was more official. We had microphones, the podium and just the whole set up made the event look more ceremonial.” She also admits that “it was also more stressful and scary to have it in the theater.”

Another factor that added to the excitement of the event is that the parents were invited on stage to put the NHS pins on the new NHS inductees. This has not happened in the past and it makes the whole event even more of a rite of passage. Although it made the event more official, many inductees thought it was quite stressful as the parents spent a few seconds fiddling with the pins. The Induction Ceremony ended with a short concluding speech by the NHS Presidents, Tiffany Chan and Eileen Jeong.

Overall, the NHS event has really experienced an upgrade from the past. It has become much more official, mostly because of how it takes place in the theater. After the event, the group had to instantly get focused as the first event as a new group took place on Friday 11th, which was Parents’ Night Out. This event required full collaboration, as NHS members had to babysit elementary school children from 4 pm to 9 pm. Overall, the new inductees are extremely excited to begin their journey as NHS members for the rest of their high school careers.

The following people are the new NHS members:

Jenny Kim

Belinda Tang

Sara Quattrocchi Febles
