On November 21st, 2016, 15 Chinese teaching interns came to AISG from Sun Yat-Sen University of Guangzhou to experience the environment of an international school and talk to the AISG teachers. Coming from the same class, all of the candidates from Sun Yat-Sen were looking to be a part of the AISG faculty as part of their training to become teachers of Chinese as a foreign language. Many of these interviewees have multiple degrees, such as majors in Korean, English and Chinese teaching, and appear to be highly qualified.
Among the many excited interviewees we spoke with, one particular candidate stood out. Lily, from Huizhou City in Guangdong province, is a recent graduate of Sun Yat-Sen. Her goal is to teach at a university in the United States. She wants to travel around the world and spread Chinese culture. She has studied a number of different languages, ranging from “languages like Chinese and Russian,” and says she “wants to travel abroad” in places such as America, the Philippines, and Africa, among others. “I’ve taught in Disney English…and I really like working with kids”- says Lily. With sights on making the world better and teaching as many students as possible, these talented interns will surely make a difference in the lives of many students around the world.
The Chinese department ultimately selected the five candidates they determined were the most suitable for the AISG community— Sophie Teng, Jasmin He, Lily Huang, Hannah Liu, and Molly Mo. The interns have been with us for some time now, and are working towards their dreams at this moment. They are a great addition to our community and have already made positive contributions in AISG.
