The group 4 project (G4 project) is a required activity for all IB diploma students. A group of junior students first choose a scientific topic of their interests. Then, they research, experiment, and process data to come to a conclusion. The final step of this G4 project is presenting the topic they explored to 7th-grade students.
On June 10th from 2:00 to 3:00pm, juniors gathered around in one of their assigned science teachers’ rooms (Mr. Megarity, Ms. Maine, Mr. Madden) to present their projects to 7th grade students. 7th graders attentively listened to the presentations and asked several thought-provoking questions. They also had to answer the questions written on the sheet of paper they were assigned to complete. It was thrilling to watch high school students and middle school students exchanging brilliant ideas.
Mr. Megarity, a high school science teacher who is in charge of organizing G4 project, said “G4 project has an emphasis on bringing students together to collaborate by using interdisciplinary approach.” He emphasized that the most important aspect of this activity “starts with C and ends with ollaboration.” He believes that this G4 project is a great opportunity for IB students who are living in a highly competitive world to collaborate and help each other out, learning new things in the process.
As a junior who participated in this G4 project, I believe that this vibrant experience will leave an indelible mark in my high school memory.
