Global Issues Network (GIN) members were thrilled to visit Renhua High School in Shaoguan this week finally. It was the first time both our current students and Renhua students could meet since the Fall of 2019, so they spent Friday evening and Saturday getting to know each other and having fun playing different games.

Shaoguan is a small city located up north in the Guangdong Province, bordering Hunnan to the North, and Jiangxi in the South. AISG’s Global Issues Network community service group takes trips twice a year to the local school to teach female students some English.

Every year, Shaoguan, a prefecture-level city in Northern Guangdong Province, hosts a number of activities and booths under the auspices of the community service organization Global Issues Network (GIN), all with the express intent of assisting the underprivileged girls there. The money earned through all of the events is given to the Shaoguan girls, who benefit from it by having a better learning environment.

GIN members typically travel to Shaoguan twice a year to speak with the girls and tell them about their personal histories.

The tour started with a warm greeting from the local students, who had organized it for the GIN Group.

Ice Breakers were the official beginning of the learning experience, which was then followed by enjoyable games and activities that our students had arranged. They engaged in both interactive and memory activities, all of which were conducted in English.

In terms of post-trip reflection, many members express how the trip was a memorable, signif, icant, and delightful experience. Many of them continue to communicate with the girls on WeChat and share their daily lives. The trip has given significance to all of the hard work done during the year, including events scheduled solely to raise funds. Though there was a language barrier for foreign members, the heartfelt acts of the Shaoguan girls made the language barrier disappear.
