In this year’s GISAC tournament, the Girls Soccer team earned 1st place, and Boys Soccer team earned 2nd. You can say that AISG is proud!

AISG’s Girls and Boys Soccer team competed in the GISAC tournaments on March 23rd, 2019. Six schools participated including AISG, BSG, Clifford, Utahloy Guangzhou, Utahloy Zeng Cheng, and ISD. When asked about how he felt about the tournament, Dylan W. said, “The games were tough because we played these teams before and either tied or lost. The team felt semi-confident, in the tournament we pulled through and played our hardest. I have been on the team for 2 years. We had a younger and fresh team this year so it was a bit hard.”

When I interviewed one of the Captains of the Girls Soccer Team Regina.K, she explained that “GISAC is 7 aside versus APAC and Tri-Cities that is 11 aside. We had to practice getting used to the 7 aside field, therefore we could have more opportunities to touch the ball, along with more time and in a smaller space. We were preparing and training for spacing and ball handling with a smaller goal. We also made sure to practice having the winger stay wide during goal kicks, and have the goalie practice rolling the ball. “

When asked about their aspirations, she mentioned, “We were aiming for first place since the beginning of the tournament. We earned first for GISAC last year and got championships, and we know that a lot of teams were trying to compete for the record, and we were trying to maintaining the record. It felt good, I felt proud, I hope they can maintain the record even after I leave. Overall I felt really proud and happy, but it was unfortunate that I couldn’t play a lot for the finals because I was injured, but I still saw how everyone played and felt really proud of how much we improved as a team.”

As a whole the GISAC tournament was successful and the team members were able to set goals and achieve them. We wish next years soccer teams all the best!
