As seniors are finishing their last few moments of high school, I took the time to interview some of them about their happiest and saddest moments of their time here, since high school is much like a roller coaster of ups and downs. After some reflection, here are words from a few seniors:
Elaine Yang said that her happiest moment was “performing at the talent show. It was my first time performing and I enjoy dancing a lot. The senior dance was a great performance and it made a really good memory for me.” Yang added that her saddest moment was when “one of my best friends moved in freshman year to America, so my high school experience was . . . not the same without her.”
A senior who wishes to remain anonymous also said that “the senior dance was fun and probably my happiest moment because our whole grade worked together as a collective group and it is great to do something like this with classmates who have become good friends over the years.” His saddest moment is “hugging a teacher or counselor goodbye because they have had an immense impact on me and they have helped me through the struggles and accomplishments of high school.”
Poh Ann Goh explained that, for her, “my happiest moment is anytime I’m not in school. School used to be great because learning is fun. The only thing I don’t like is the fact that I have to meet people when I’m in school.” Like other people, Goh said that the saddest part of high school is “when I don’t meet expectations, because the worst feeling in the world, to me, is feeling that I’ve disappointed someone, regardless of who they are.”
While seniors are continuing their way through IB exams, they are nearly done with high school and graduation will be upon them soon, so it is a good time for them to look back on their best and worst memories.
