Holiday Bazaar, an annual event hosted by AISG’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), was held on December 5, 2020, at the Ersha campus as per tradition. This event provides a unique opportunity for all members of the AISG community to enjoy a festive atmosphere.
Unlike the previous years, where numerous restaurants in Guangzhou visited the Ersha campus to provide flavorful food for attendees, the COVID-19 pandemic has forcibly removed such tradition in this year’s holiday bazaar. Several student groups who sold small refreshments to raise money for kind purposes were also forbidden to do so, forcing them to conduct small games and activities.
Andy H., a senior at AISG, remarked on this year’s holiday bazaar, commenting, “There was a drastic change in the number of participants this year due to COVID-19 protocols not allowing outside vendors to participate. However, I think this gave new opportunities for community service clubs because they were not crowded in the MPR like last year.”
Max J., a sophomore at AISG, expressed his dismay on the absence of foods and drinks, commenting, “It was quite sad how there wasn’t much food available.” However, he added that “I thought that the activities and games were more creative than last year, which made the event pretty fun and enjoyable.”
All in all, this year’s Holiday Bazaar was an unexpected success. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has unfavorably affected school events to proceed ordinarily, it has prompted the PTA and student groups to devise creative solutions, resulting in an unforeseen triumph.
