From the 2020 Beijing’s National Congress meeting, the Communist Party of China has implemented the newest National law for Hong Kong, which resulted in numerous protests and violence with police in Hong Kong to express Hong Kong citizen’s anger.

The newest national laws from Beijing have targeted Hong Kong citizens and political figures that jeopardize and threaten mainland China’s national security. These charges within the law include the act of treason and sedition against the Communist Party.

Stated by the Chinese government, these national laws will only apply to a small category of national security, and it will not violate the rights and freedom of speech of Hong Kong residents, foreign investments in Hong Kong, and the autonomy that Hong Kong already holds.

The Chinese Communist Party has also stated that it will not just improve the legal systems and future of Hong Kong, but also the safety of Hong Kong.

In response to this national law for Hong Kong, citizens protested on the streets again, despite the fear and emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The protestors used forces such as throwing bricks or umbrellas at the police, destroying public stores and equipment as well as an obstruction to car traffic. This resulted in police throwing numerous tear gas at the protestors, firing water cannons within an armored car at the protestors, and arresting more than 180 people in the protest.

Junior Roy S. stated he used to travel to Hong Kong a lot for many purposes because of the good tourism locations, the delicious food in Hong Kong, and the international culture.

But however, he is very disappointed seeing Hong Kong’s financial powerhouse turn into a chaotic warzone, so he is looking forward to the changes in Hong Kong after implementing Beijing’s national laws.

After the national laws, it will truly shape Hong Kong into a part of China, under a system of “One country, One system”, creating an environment for the Chinese Communist party to set foot on.
