“Pornography is a satire on human pretensions”
– Angela Carter
Easy access to porn is damaging society´s mindset of how relationships should work out and how they function. Many have stated that it is quite common to find images and ads related to pornography websites, this sometimes encourages young teens to enter these websites and thus, introduces them to the world of pornography. According to statistics led by the Huffington Post, porn sites get more visitors each month than Netflix, Amazon, and Twitter combined; this leads to people living up to certain expectations that are not even close to the truth. Porn can make women feel as if they were in some cases inferior to men and can as well lower their self-esteem, apart from all of this, some men can be under the illusion that sexual intercourse is supposed to be similar to porn videos.
There is no specific way to keep children away from pornographic websites, as the internet has no way to determine whether if it is an adult or a child who is entering the site. High schools try to explain the risk that comes from entering dangerous porn websites, however, this acts as a curiosity trigger most of the times leading students to “discover” the networks. The discovery of porn forums does have a major impact towards the expectations that people may have towards sex, these expectations usually bring along the demoralizing of both genders (as they now have the need to live up to certain expectations).
Many have spoken out towards the rude behavior shown in dating apps such as Tinder, Meetic…etc. The “rude behavior” consists of men (in most cases) showing male dominance over women and asking something from them. Porn is slowly changing the perspective of both couples and people who are single leading to wrong assumptions. Even though it is almost impossible to prevent the access to these databases, society should not feel pressure to live with such expectations as there is no rule that compels anyone to fulfill them.
