On April 20, AISG invited the first guest speaker of the 2021 school year to our school community. His name is Huang Feng Rong, who is brought to us by the AISG annual fund made possible by our community’s generous donations. Mr. Huang was born in Fujian, China, and he is a Chinese performance painter. He is currently the founder of an acting school and a postmodern collage artist. In addition to traveling the world performing his unique style of art, some of his works have been displayed in several European Art Museums. As a modern artist, he developed his own unique twist of bringing together music, art, and dance in an innovative way to create unique masterpieces.
According to Mr. Huang, he loved painting ever since he was a young kid. He would often paint on the boundless sand on the beaches with a branch in his hand. “I enjoy the process of painting, and the whole process is the source of my happiness,” said Mr. Huang.
His dream was to become an artist of joy, to encourage many like him to enjoy the process of painting and the process of living. Mr. Huang emphasized in his speech that it is essential to be able to capture the beauty of life. “The beauty of life lies in the journey, not just in the outcome,” he said.
The first performance that Mr. Huang presented was astonishing and very innovative. As the lights were turned off and the music started, Mr. Huang used a paintbrush and started painting onto the black canvas. At first, his exaggerated body language and the irregular shapes that he painted created confusion among us. However, everyone was shocked when he turned the canvas upside-down and the face of Bruce Lee showed up on the canvas. This program is the creative form of the 2010 national Chinese New Year celebration.
After this performance, Mr. Huang started dancing on a canvas on the floor. With the melodic melody and creative body gestures, he stepped on the canvas with white paint on his shoes. As it turns out, Mr. Huang painted the face of Einstein with his feet.
Mr. Huang called this joyful way of creating art performance painting. He thinks that the core of performance painting is happiness. Of course, painting, in addition to experiencing joy, can also serve as a tool to capture our imagination and creativity. Everyone should always discover and appreciate beauty, and try to create art and love art. Let us enjoy the joy and happiness of art.
