IOS 13 was released to the public on September 19, 2019.
This is the slogan for IOS 13 on Apple’s website. Apple claims this new software update “introduces a bold new look,” and adds “new ways to help you protect your privacy.” D
A new feature that was desired by many iPhone users was dark mode. Dark mode allows the previously white parts of your screen to turn black, making it easier for long hours of feed-scrolling in the dark. Victoria Y., a junior who scrolls through her Instagram feed late at the night, appreciates this addition by Apple, saying, “My eyes used to be very tired after a few minutes of looking at my phone, and now dark mode has lessened the [pressure] on my eyes.”
Another feature that has been added is QuickPath typing, which is similar to Swype Keyboard. It allows users to type words without lifting their finger off the screen—they “swipe” their fingers across the letters.
Brandon L. commented on the new feature, saying that “since [he] was young, [he] wanted to use Swype Keyboard, but it was only available for Android devices. Now, with IOS 13, [he] can finally swipe instead of type.”
Siri has also been revamped. Siri now has a new voice, and according to Apple, it uses “advanced neural text-to-speech technology.” New features that are included in the update are Siri Shortcuts, Homepod support, and announcing messages on Airpods.
There are many other new features and small tweaks that Apple has included in IOS 13. You can find more about the new update on their website.
