We have just had our two week long winter break and there are only three weeks of school between this and the next break, the Chinese New Year break. There is usually at least a month of school between the two breaks but this year, because of the Chinese calendar, our CNY break starts on the 28th of January. This has actually made realize that having a long summer break may not be so beneficial after all.
What I mean by this is that I believe it may be more efficient and overall better if summer break (usually around 2 months long) is broken up into two week long breaks throughout the year. This results in the same amount of schooldays, just an evenly distributed break schedule. While some people may not like this, I really do because I feel like there is an adequate amount of pressure put on us to study hard but also a close break to look forward to, something to motivate us.
Think about it this way: instead of having a two-month-long break (that gets quite boring towards the end), we could have two week-long breaks every month! Another way would be to have a month long break during the summer, but still have one or two week-long breaks throughout the year. This way, there is much less stress during the school year and many more chances to have a break and relax. Teachers won’t feel the need to “cram” everything at the end of the semester.
It’s understandable that some people may feel like two week-long breaks aren’t long enough; however, I think 2 month long breaks are just way too long. One junior says, “Yeah, I would like to have more frequent breaks even though I personally don’t mind the two month long summer break.” Another junior adds, “Every year, summer break comes to a point where it’s no longer enjoyable because it’s so long and I miss having my friends around me all the time.”
Let me know how you feel about summer breaks! Do you think it’s better to have shorter breaks but have them more frequently or do you like it better the way it is now?
