On February 24, 2022, Student Council (StuCo) hosted the first Town Hall meeting during the advisory block with each grade level in the upper secondary. Each grade gathered around their designated area to discuss, ask questions, and give constructive feedback to their General Council (GenCo) members.
This event’s purpose was to hear the students’ opinions on the new building, StuCo activities, help students understand what StuCo has done thus far, and communicate what StuCo encompasses as a council. This event allowed the entire student body to directly communicate with their StuCo members, which was rare in the previous years due to the COVID-19 pandemic protocols.
“I really think this event was a good chance for the students to voice their needs and wants,” said Sophia P., a junior at AISG. “I had a lot of questions about the new building and school policies in general, and I am really happy that I was able to get my questions answered.”
“Although there were small challenges to lead the whole period, I think this was a good opportunity for us to communicate with our grade,” said Jerry L., the GenCo 10 president. “As the whole grade got together, we had a little trouble getting all their attention in the beginning, but I am happy that we were able to receive a lot of constructive feedback and suggestions.”
StuCo plans to continue the Town Hall meetings as a method to communicate with the student body. Also, beyond listening to the students’ voices, StuCo will initiate additional meetings with the admin to instigate plausible changes.
