This year, for the annual High School Musical, the drama department put together an amazing production of Little Shop of Horrors, a classic musical about a flower shop assistant and a man-eating plant. The musical played on December 1st and 2nd. The musical starred Santiago Villar as Seymour, Manogya Chandar as Audrey, Rachel Moon as Mrs. Mushnik, and Zoe Cheng as the plant Audrey II.

Little Shop of Horrors is a dark comedy musical that features famous songs such as “Suddenly Seymour”, “Skid Row”, and “Somewhere That’s Green”. The musical features a flower shop assistant named Seymour who comes into possession of a man-eating plant. Seymour must figure out how to feed the plant’s ever-growing hunger while trying to woo Audrey, the girl he loves. As the plant continues to grow, so does Seymour’s newfound fame. He feeds Audrey’s abusive dentist boyfriend to the plant and later Mrs. Mushnik and Audrey herself. The plant proceeds to devour Seymour, leading to the finale, “Don’t Feed the Plants”.

I went to see the musical on Friday, December 1st. I was truly blown away by the performances of the cast. The singing was amazing, and everyone did a wonderful job. The costumes were wonderful, and the Audrey II puppet was phenomenal. The band played along perfectly to the story, emphasizing each and every moment. One of my favorite parts of the musical was the song “Suddenly Seymour” because it was beautifully sung, and I also liked “Feed Me (Git it!)”, because the song was funny and the puppetry was amazing. I would definitely give this performance 5/5 stars, and when the cast took their bows, I was cheering as loudly as I could.
