On June 22, 2019, Pewdiepie (a well-known Youtube creator) started a Minecraft series that is still going on today. That very next day, Minecraft had a trending spike on the internet. The spike started gradually increasing till this day. Some people say that his series brought Minecraft back from the dead; others say that people just got bored of shooting guns in video games such as Fortnite and PUBG.

On the graph above, it shows that on June 23 Minecraft had more searches than Fortnite.

Minecraft is a survival game that can be played on a computer or on mobile devices. It is filled with adventures, accessories and many types of monsters and animals. It is a 3D-generated world filled with a large variety of building blocks, in which the players can use to create anything from their imagination.

May 17, 2019 was Minecraft’s 10th birthday, and it hooked the gamers and brought them back into the game while gathering new players. Over the summer, people started playing Minecraft again, and it was able to bring them peace, happiness, and nostalgia. Because of Minecraft’s fall in popularity since January 2018, many people have forgotten what it felt like to break a tree, mine a diamond, and listen to the classic game’s background music.

Due to the fall in trend, many people have shunned the Minecraft community for a while. Many returning players were surprised about multiple new additions in the update such as Foxes, Pandas, Dolphins, and the Aquatic package which contains shipwrecks, buried treasure, and a new Ocean boss mob.

Sanshiro M., a junior, has played Minecraft since he was in elementary school; he stated that he only stopped playing due to the rise of multiplayer games such as CS:GO, Fortnite, and PUBG. He said that he started playing Minecraft recently because of the influence from popular Youtube creators when they started playing again. “It seemed pretty fun to play,” he stated.

He said that he would rather play Minecraft over Fortnite since it is a more mainstream video game and he gets to play with his friends. “The repetitive work you do in Minecraft can get a little addicting.” He reputed.

Personally, as a Minecraft player myself, I am very excited that the game came back to life. I played it for a small period before it died, but now that it’s trending I’ve been playing it a lot and there have been so many changes to the game and extra adventures added into it. I have also seen many of my friends starting to play as well and that really excites me of the potential the game can have over the years. I would recommend a lot of people to play the game.
