On the November 5, the National Chinese Honors Society (NCHS) held its induction ceremony to welcome new students into the fold. Five students were admitted in the NCHS: senior Cindy W., senior Eddie K., Junior Kathleen W., junior Queenie T. and junior Chie Y. This event was attended by all high school students during the 45-minute interval at the end of the day.

These new remarkable inductees have accomplished a great feat as they have had to fulfilled several criteria in order to be inducted into the NCHS. Student candidates must be students taking a Chinese language course and must attain a grade above a B average in these courses. Individuals must also maintain a GPA of 3.5. In addition to these requirements, students must also adhere to the following pillars of the NCHS: scholarship, leadership, service and character.

The four pillars represent the characteristics of role model students. Scholarship is the quality that pertains to the level of integrity a student maintains during their tests and assignments. Students of the NCHS are not implicated of charges of academic dishonesty. Leadership refers to how students take charge in a classroom setting and within school clubs. The service pillar is related to community service and other beneficial services that a student has performed for his or her community. Finally, the character pillar is connected to how a student presents themselves in school and how they treat others.

All of this year’s inductees into the NCHS were ecstatic about joining the honor society program. Eddie K., a recent NCHS inductee, commented that he “was glad to be inducted into such [a] prestigious group and looked forward to undertaking community service projects within this group.” NCHS was happy to have so many enthusiastic inductees this year. NCHS coordinator Arete S. also commented that “all of the inductees are extremely responsible and diligent students.” NCHS is quite confident that the club will be able to successfully accomplish its goal with the help of the the new inductees.
