New Art Teacher in the Community

After our one and only high school and IB Art teacher, Ms. Mora, left our school to Costa Rica after last school year, Ms. Robles joined the AISG community. Before AISG, Ms. Robles has been teaching art for 8 years, in Seoul, Korea, and at King’s academy in Jordan.

Ms. Robles wanted to become an art teacher since college, when “[she] worked with the art department” as an internship at a high school. It was the experience earned through the internship that finalized her decision in watching to become an art teacher.

Ms. Robles states that the biggest different between AISG and her previous schools is the size of the art department. There were more teachers in her previous school and she had to work with more colleagues. Having only two art teachers at AISG and being the only high school art teacher, she has “more freedom to adapt to the curriculum and make projects that [she] thinks are interesting.” She is aiming to make projects and assignments more attracting and interesting for the students while also allowing students to explore the different types of media.

Ms. Robles has been working with several different types of media throughout her career, and currently she is attracted to photography and painting due to its portability. Back in college, she was exceptionally attracted to printmaking, “but you need so many different supplies, it’s too complicated so I like working on my iPad since it is easier to transport,” she mentions.

Ms. Robles notes, “It’s been really easy [living in Guangzhou. Everything is on your phone, such a great easy place to live.” she replies with a giggle.”
