New CNY AISG Celebration: Is it Better?

• Bookmarks: 18663

The annual AISG Chinese New Year Celebration took place on February 10th, which was the last day of school before the Lunar New Year break. The event was 2 hours long and took place during the second half of the school day. The Lion Dance was 40 minutes long and afterwards, we could play mini-games in the gym and on the field such as making crafts and playing carnival games for the rest of the time. These were done to earn stickers on a card that our homeroom teacher handed out to us in the morning so we could beat the games and get a sticker to trade it for snacks.

The review for this event from high school students is very mixed. Jeff H, a ninth-grade student, said that the event is pointless and a waste of time because we see the same Lion Dance every year done by the same group of guys doing the same actions and it can get very repetitive. The event after the Lion Dance was interesting from the start because you had no idea what it was but after you play a certain amounts of games, it gets extremely boring. I can see that a big amount of the students are very bored and want this event to end as fast as possible. There are also some students that really enjoyed the event such as Ryan H as this is his first year at AISG and it is his first time seeing a Lion Dance anywhere. In conclusion, this event is more interesting to new students than old students.
