New Faculty, Climbing to New Heights

This is the second article to introduce the new faculty members at AISG. Ms. Archer, who some of you may know as one of the cross country coaches, TOK teachers, or English teachers, is featured in this article. For those of you who do not know her or do not know her well, keep reading.

From my interview with Ms. Archer, I learned that she is the little sister to two older brothers and is “originally from Portland, Oregon but [was] most recently in Leysin, Switzerland.” Archer’s parents were both educators and Archer “love[s] learning and how it can help you grow.” She became “interested in teaching when [she] was teaching young kids how to rock climb. [She] thought about how much higher they could go both literally and metaphorically with an education.” Ms. Archer has been teaching for about ten years.

This is Ms. Archer’s first time in Asia, but she said, “I took a lot of Chinese philosophy classes and was fascinated by the culture and the history.” She added that “the environment where you live helps shape how you see and think and process. I wanted to see something completely new.” Ms. Archer seems very excited to come to China.

When I asked her how she liked AISG, she replied, “I am really impressed with my students and athletes so far. I really see the connection between activity and learning.” Archer believes that school should be about what happens in the classroom and how students connect that knowledge and information with everything outside of school.
