Being an international school, it is undoubtable that collectively, our student body and faculty can mark off quite a few of the countries in the world. Each year, the arrival of new members brings yet a more culturally diverse experience to our community.

Originally from Avon, Minnesota, Ms. Brinkman is the newest arrival to the Maths department, teaching both IB SL and HL Maths, as well as Integrated and Extended Maths 10. She has spent the past 14 years traveling around the world, from Minnesota (USA), to Athens (Greece), to Bogotá (Colombia), sharing her passion and love for teaching maths to high school students, and growing confidence in the classroom. However, she didn’t always dream of becoming a teacher. After graduating from university, during her volunteer construction work in Guatemala, she was asked to tutor kids from the local area. Upon doing this, she realized where her passion lay, and went back to the USA to get her teaching degree. Here at AISG, Ms. Brinkman loves the sense of community and the assistance and support provided. She is also looking forward to getting fully involved with all the aspects of school life!

Like Ms. Brinkman, Ms. Higley is also from Minnesota. During her 13 years of teaching, Ms. Higley has taught biology, chemistry, maths and even language arts. She has now joined us as the 10th grade Integrated Science and IB 1 Biology teacher. Ms. Higley has always loved biology and science, however her interest in teaching sprouted while she was working in biotech doing research. Since she tutored many of the interns, she decided to become a teacher, and has, since then, shared her knowledge of science in 6 different places!

New to our P.E. and Health department, Mr. Russell is a keen sportsman, having practiced cricket and volleyball since an early age. His love for sport shines through his teaching and coaching, and he hopes to teach his students how to become better people through sports. Originally from Christ Church, New Zealand, Mr. Russell combined his passion for traveling and teaching, working in schools in Whangarei (New Zealand), London (UK), and Shanghai (China). At AISG, Mr. Russell loves how positive and friendly the community is, and hopes to inspire his students and team members with his skills and past experiences as a coach and teacher.

What do our new teachers love doing in their spare time?

  • Ms. Higley loves sports. She has run 5 marathons and she is a 4-time NCAA All American for swimming! In her spare time, Ms. Higley likes to keep active by swimming, biking, doing yoga, but also hanging out with friends and finding new restaurants.
  • Mr. Russell loves spending time with his wife and traveling to new places, exploring the beauty of the world. While he likes finding new restaurants, Mr. Russell loves cooking home meals.
  • Ms. Brinkman has played the trumpet since 5th grade all the way through university and even received a music scholarship! She would love to join a mariachi band in the future!

I hope you can all agree that we are very lucky and excited to see what these new teachers have to offer!
