With the start of a new school year, AISG has once again received a substantial influx of new students to all high-school grade levels. The 11th grade has gained 8 new students, one of whom is Lance d.G from the Philippines, who formerly attended a school in Singapore.
Since joining AISG, Lance commented that he is “motivated to attend more extracurriculars than last year” as this school offers a wider variety of activities and extracurriculars. In fact, his goal for this year this is to actually “do more extracurriculars.” He is currently a member of the robotics team, Habitat for Humanity, and the drone club. As for his academic goals, Lance hopes to properly adjust to all of his new courses. Due to his status as an IB student, he believes that this will not be an easy task as “the workload is a lot greater than last year.” Despite his plans to study extensively for coming IB assessments, he still feels “relatively nervous, but also somewhat excited.”
As a result of joining AISG this year, Lance has experienced some difficulty adjusting to his schedule and classes. Lance noted that he will have to work harder this year as the “workload and stress from the IB curriculum is greater than that of [his] old school.” Apart from academics, Lance also feels like he will have trouble adjusting to Guangzhou’s environment. Compared to Singapore, “Guangzhou is more crowded, especially in the subway.” Lance has also experienced some language barriers when arriving in Guangzhou, but he nonetheless hopes to overcome these small differences.
Lance, along with the other new students, will undoubtedly experience similar difficulties while adjusting to the school. As of now, the community has a responsibility to make the new students feel as welcome as possible.
