NHS and NCHS Induction Ceremony

• Bookmarks: 511804

This year, 15 high-school students were inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS) and 10 were inducted into the National Chinese Honour Society (NCHS). These organizations are headed by Ms. Lin and Ms. Wang respectively. In order to be admitted into these prestigious organizations, students had to fill out applications, which were reviewed by a group of faculty members. These faculty members not only assessed a student’s application, but also the rigor they show in class.

The NHS and NCHS selection process are held to high standards, and are known for their degree of fairness, however, in the past some students have expressed concerns about the selection process. Some students have anonymously commented that the NHS selection process this year was comparatively more lenient than previous years. Some unnamed individuals also opined that the selection process could be “unfair and biased.” However, most of these students did not attempt to obtain the feedback for their applications. This feedback is essential for future success in the NHS selection process as it it not only reveals areas of growth, but is also a firm indicator that a student is willing to correct their flaws.

With regards to this year’s selection process, some anonymous individuals also commented that “quiet students were more likely to be admitted into the NHS than those who are more studious and outgoing.” These students commented that one’s outgoing nature is the reason why their flaws are more apparent to the community. Several may beg to differ with this argument as this year’s NHS and NCHS pledges are equally as outgoing, which is evident in their participation in a multitude of community service activities.

Students may continue to criticize the selection process, but according to an unnamed educator, “if students look far enough, they will always find errors with the system.” This individual also mentioned that students must “expect a degree of subjectivity” in any selection process. Students are also strongly advised to request feedback from AISG’s NHS advisor, Ms. Lin. Students are also strongly encouraged to continue applying to the NHS as they are more likely to be admitted after applying a second time. This will give students time to revise their application as well as their innate features and repute. Below is a list of this year’s NHS inductees.
