Nintendo Switch Online: Worth the Price?

• Bookmarks: 471597

In September of 2018, Nintendo released a new service for Nintendo Switch users to play online.

Initially, many users were unsatisfied with the service due to its high cost; before the service was launched, users could play online for free. Now, Nintendo has decided to include more features in the subscription to appeal to audiences.

Below are the prices of the different subscriptions:

1 month – $4

3 months – $8

12 months – $20

To please its fans, Nintendo recently released the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Super Nintendo entertainment system (SNES) games on the Nintendo switch. These packages include many classic games that older Nintendo fans have grown up playing, such as The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario World, and Donkey Kong. This inclusion of classic games has persuaded many that were initially unsatisfied with the online service to buy the service and reminisce about their childhood. This inclusion of original games along with the online service has made the $20 a year subscription seem reasonable for many users.

Freshmen Edward Y. stated that “[He] has always been a Nintendo fan and bought every console introduced after the Wii. [He] already bought the subscription to play the old games that that was introduced before his time [He] is especially looking forward to the game “The Legend of Zelda: A Link to The Past.”

Contrastingly, Junior Azlan K. wasn’t pleased with Nintendo charging players money just to play online, stating that “I don’t think we should pay just to play online, it should be a free service given to everyone who bought the console. Even if Nintendo includes all these bonuses, I feel like it is still wrong to charge people to play online in this day and age.”
