Open Mic Night: A Night Full of Stars

On the evening of 3rd November, high school students gathered in the amphitheatre to listen to their peers rock the stage. One of StuCo’s events, Open Mic Night invites our school’s singers, rappers and instrument enthusiasts to share their talents. StuCo President, Gwen Farm, enjoyed the “relaxed and sentimental ambience that was bought by the twinkling lights and flickering candles”.

As the striking pink sunset set the peaceful mood for the evening, seniors began gathering in the amphitheatre to enjoy a front view on the sofas and beanbags, while freshman, sophomores and juniors took their seats at the tables, decorated by StuCo.

MCs Vicky Jung and Andy Jeong did a wonderful job keeping us audience entertained between performances. Opening act for the night was Alex Lu and Ashley Kim; a crowd favourite! Santiago and Eddie’s cover of ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’ followed, and needless to say, it could have been the original! As the acts progressed, GenCo members walked around feeding hungry stomachs and promoting their food. Performer Daniel Kim said “Open Mic Night is a great way for students to share their talents. Rams Nation got Talent!”

During the intermission, a variety of food was sold, from dumplings to cup noodles to homemade brownies. In addition, Ms Dean started handing out glow sticks – who knew high school students could enjoy glowing light so much!

After, we were welcomed by even more great talent. Sophomore Sophia Morais’ cover of Grenade was sung beautifully and definitely a crowd pleaser. We cannot wait to see what else she has to offer! Gwen Farm sang a medley, with Jerry Julius accompanying on the keyboard. “Since this was my last Open Mic, I wanted to perform something I would remember; I chose to do a medley of songs that I love and being able to perform them in front of my senior class was definitely very special for me,” says Gwen Farm.

Thank you, StuCo, for a wonderful event and we cannot wait for the next one!
